The next version of ThunderBrowse contains a new feature where you can install extensions by adding -install and then the url of the xpi file (this only works on AMO hosted extensions [or for any website host [ex: www.google.com] listed in your TB whitelist [extensions.install.whitelist]]) to the thunderbird executable, like so:
“C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe” -install “https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/downloads/file/26603/
thunderbrowse-3.2.1.2-tb.xpi”
In doing so, ThunderBrowse will open a window with the XPI install prompt for that Extension. You can choose to cancel or install the extension.
So what is TBExtInt?
TBExtInt is an extension for Firefox, which allows you to install Thunderbird extensions while in Firefox. So if you like to browse AMO via Firefox, you can install any Thunderbird extension through Firefox. It makes life for some users a little easier. Plus, it involves much less clicking and having to save the file to the desktop and such.
Am I safe?
To maintain security, both ThunderBrowse checks if the extension is from AMO or if it’s on your whitelist. So the install process is as safe as your whitelist and AMO is.
Does it work with Mac and Linux?
It should but you will need to change the path to Thunderbird using the TBExtInt settings window.
What versions of Firefox does this work for?
Right now, TBExtInt is only for Firefox 2.0 and up. Firefox 3 support is planned.
When will I be able to use it?
When ThunderBrowse 3.2.1.3 releases, I’ll release TBExtInt.
Is it free?
Yes.
