Mantis now has anonymous access

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

After figuring out that Mantis doesn’t read from the file that should overwrite all default settings, I fixed the main file that contains all the defaults so it would work in the way I want to.

So after much beating over the head, Mantis now allows anonymous users to add their bug reports to the ThunderBrowse project (please note however, that you could have added bug reports via http://thunderbrowse.com/bugreport).

You can check out the bug tracker here: http://bugs.thunderbrowse.com/

Online FAQ

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Instead of just redoing the FAQ and wasting tons of my rare free time, I took the road hella traveled upon and just created a FAQ page through Wordpress using the html code from the html file inside of ThunderBrowse. Yay for me.

In other news, I’m pondering whether to switch from this crazy theme that is kinda hard to read to something more readable.

Here’s the link to the FAQ if you missed it.

“What’s new” feature

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I am pondering whether or not to do something like NoScript does everytime you update. That is, show a page with a list of the most recent stuff in the newest version. I know as an end user myself, I like to know what’s going on in my favorite software, since in the past, I have ended up installing updates to find that the software is no longer freeware because the author made no money from ads.

Personally, I like this idea. But I hate how NoScript does it. It’s not very clean to show it the NoScript way.

I’ve yet to decide if I am going to do this. Seems like a cool and helpful feature.

More on the Wizard

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

So the Wizard has finally been localized (I got all the strings done so they can be translated) and has been uploaded to Babelzilla. The wizard includes a new option to force ThunderBrowse not to overwrite your startpage (A problem many were pissed off about). It also has a few other cool features that most people will like. Due to it’s easiness of use, people might find ThunderBrowse more enjoyable.

The wizard debuts in version 3.2.1!

Also planned for the version is an Uninstaller, which has yet to be tested. The installer is not localized and is not planned to be until a few versions later. What it does is reset the homepage to what it was before (if you have not changed it from http://start.thunderbrowse.com/). As well as delete the old prefs if you decide that you are never ever ever ever going to install ThunderBrowse again (I’m sad to see you leave the party)

Here are a few screenshots of the new wizard:

Panel1 wizard2
wizard3 wizard4
wizard5 wizard6

Now of course I’ve skipped a few steps. What’s not shown is the applying settings screen and the Fix what browser links launch in screen. When you close the wizard, it opens up the first time page. Thus replacing quite a few things.

NOTE: One of the translators pointed out that the image on row two first column had the same strings for both options. This has been fixed.

Wizard

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I’m not too sure where I mentioned this, but I know I said I was working on a wizard for the next version of ThunderBrowse to help out new users in configuration.

Today, I finished it (and I learned that the wizard system is a pain in the *** to work with).

Hooray!

So the new wizard is pretty much awesome. I would post a couple screenshots, but I still have to make it localized for the people who don’t speak (or read) English (I hate localizing [such a lengthy process to do so]).

In other news, I recently got a real FAQ creator called HelpSmith, which makes real FAQs. When I create the new ThunderBrowse FAQ, you will be able to check it even if you don’t have ThunderBrowse installed. Which will be handy for people who recently uninstalled or have general questions or some scenario.
